Alaska Winter Helicopter Elopement on Knik Glacier

It’s Winter Solstice, the shortest day (or the longest night) of the year in Alaska and Lira and Maria chose this special day for their Alaska helicopter elopement on Knik glacier. Both from the Phillippines, Lira and Maria met through common friends in California. From their first date on they conversed and connected effortlessly. Both of them work in healthcare in Southern California, and after sustained efforts taking care of others, they were ready to take some time celebrating the joyful life they’re creating together. This pair was super sweet and loving, always with a playful banter and working as a team. Their intent was to create a private day focused on their love in the surreal Alaskan glacier landscape.

The morning started in the relaxed atmosphere of a charming cabin on the Knik River. To get ready for their Alaska helicopter elopement, Lira and Maria had their hair and makeup done in the comfort of their private cabin, and then had a sweet first look on the snow covered deck overlooking the river and glacier.

After a short drive, they arrived at Alaska Helicopter Tours based out of Knik River Lodge. They loaded up and after a brief flight, touched down in front of a glacial wall and spent time exploring and taking in the incredible 360 degree view.

The weather had cleared just long enough that a window opened to head further up in elevation. They soon found themselves on a breathtaking ridge line above the clouds. They immediately knew it was the perfect ceremony site and shared their handwritten vows, exchanged rings, and kissed as the sun dipped behind the surrounding mountains.

Both Lira and Maria gravitate toward soft, pastel colors which inspired us to create a northern alpenglow tablescape for them in their remote glacier destination. With the help of their pilot, they uncorked the champagne, and shared a toast before taking a few moments to record a video for their families with the epic scenery behind them. Afterwards, they cut their cake and ran back to the helicopter to race the sunset home.

The evening breeze had picked up but we helped them bundle up for the chilly helicopter adventure in amazing faux fur coats from Bateau Bridal Boutique. Their cake was classic white fondant created by Midnight Sun Cakery, and a dusty pink runner matched the pink of the sunset glow reflected in the romantic bouquets and the surrounding mountains and sky.

They returned to a meal prepared by private chef Patricia Mathias of Grape Tap restaurant at their cabin on the Knik Glacier. We are blown away by the beauty of their day and are honored to be a part of it all. Congratulations, Lira and Maria!
