Jill and Joe’s relationship is one built on adventure, with a new chapter yearly. Having lived and explored most of the country, Alaska was the one location they had both yet to visit – as Jill put it, “in a place that is know as ‘the last frontier’ to others will be our ‘first frontier’ together.” She reached out to us in August sharing with us the desire to have a stress free, unforgettable glacier elopement experience that felt unscripted and unique to them. Less than two months later, we found ourselves in Girdwood, Alaska, a small town just south of Anchorage, celebrating their love on a blustery, magical fall day.
The day began with Jill getting ready while two of her closest friends, her dads, and Joe relaxed in the lodging they had rented for the afternoon. The morning was full of laughter, sweet moments, and anticipation for their “first look” and the helicopter adventure to come.
We had been keeping a close eye on the weather and knew that snow was headed our way, and just as Jill and Joe were having their first look the first flakes started falling. We arrived to Alpine Air and spoke with the pilots to determine where it was safe to fly. After some deliberation and radar watching, we lifted off towards clearer skies, to a nearby glacier where only they are permitted to land.
After a windy first landing, we loaded back up and flew to a more protected glacier area for their vows. It was officiated by their dear friend, and was a sweet, funny, heartfelt ceremony that felt sacred as they stood on ancient ice. We never tire of the magic of glaciers and the beauty of Alaska.
We are so happy we got to be a part of Jill and Joe’s adventure to Alaska, and the beginning of their adventure of marriage. Cheers to these two beautiful humans and all the chapters in life they’ll share!
