Glacier Elopement in Girdwood Alaska

Ever since she was a little girl Amanda had dreamed of a winter wedding- complete with fresh snow, classic white dress and a handsome husband. We knew that this day would need to surpass the visions that Amanda has had for so many years, and we created a day to do just that! This glacier elopement in Girdwood, Alaska is complete with two ceremonies, a private chef prepared dinner, and custom florals from start to finish. Amanda and Tyler had their February 2, 2022 day filled with close family, beauty, and adventure.

Amanda and Tyler brought a thoughtful collection of personalized details for Cori and I to photograph and style that morning. From unique custom socks for the men in the family, to a handbag embossed with the wedding date, a bride gifted watch, rings and personalized vow books completed the grouping to create some fun styled flatlays.

The modern Girdwood home, tucked at the end of a long private driveway is in was a stunning wooded setting that backs on wilderness. A perfect home for staging and prepping to hold the small, intimate ceremony and reception for this Girdwood, Alaska Elopement. Fresh white rose petals dotting the aisle and Amanda’s long train added striking touches to the intimate ceremony.

Despite a wind advisory and sleeting rain the night before, Mother Nature acquiesced and pulled out a picture perfect day for the couple. The day began with a romantic fluffy dusting of snow, a touch of blustery breeze on the glacier and ended with a glowy sunset sky.

At noon we touched down in the private helicopter (safely, thank you Alpine Air!) on a rocky prominence at the tow of Colony Glacier, surrounded by icebergs, an ice wall, and rugged mountains. Since it was taco Tuesday, an Amanda and Tyler favorite, the spread on their cake table was complete with tacos and fixings from Girdwood taco restaurant Sadie Romo’s. There was a special energy at the glacier; we noticed the couple had a chance to really connect and relax into their private outdoor ceremony. Their goal was to be on the glacier at 2:22pm to add another layer to the date chosen for the wedding. Success!

We loved creating a glacier inspired table for them to complement their newlywed glow. We were able to incorporate rocks from the landscape, which adds to the look and also holds down the tablecloth and runner from blowing away in the wind. Side note: Erin has been wanting to bring rocks into a tablescape design since a sheep hunt she did in the Wrangells last fall- dream come true for this designer- we get inspiration for our designs wherever we go :) We absolutely love how it turned out and enhanced Amanda and Tyler’s glacier experience and timeless photos.

Back at the Girdwood home Amanda had a specific vision for how her dinner tablescape would come together, and we were more than happy to make it happen. From black silverware to floral adorned lanterns, the table she envisioned was romantic and true to her vision. Alex and Robert from Spoonline Catering put together an incredible four course feast (including a Cobb salad, a nod to the newlywed’s last name), finished off with a classic white custom cake, by Spoonline’s European trained pastry chef.

Amanda and Tyler, Thank you for trusting us with your day and many congratulations and a lifetime of love to you!! This glacier elopement in Girdwood, Alaska is a day to remember!
